The Original Six - A girls weekend

A few weekend ago I met up with a few of my friends from the good ole high school days. Some of the girls I've seen quite a bit, and others I had not seen in YEARS...even over a decade.   Thanks to Facebook we all found each other and decided to plan a trip.  I believe it was a year in the making. I think we tried something last fall, but it just didn't come together.  But it was HAPPENING this year!!  We were minus one, which made us SAD, but we understand that life sometimes gets in the way! :) I mean, why can't life just chill when something good is planned, it really should know better than to mess with us! :)

We dubbed ourselves the "Original 6" because it was pretty much the same six of us out EVERY weekend together.  We'd all pile into ONE car...these were the days before a 3rd row, mind you.  One driver (usually Heather or Barbara since they were the first to turn16), two in the passenger seat (usually Libby and Emily because they were the girls that would call it the night before, don't ask me why we thought that was legit or why we honored it...lol), and three in the back (always Alison and I bc we were just cool like that...wink, wink)

We had a blast together!  Alison's Family owns a house on Lake Martin (Shout out to Mr. David and Mrs. Kay).  We totally could have gone boating, but instead we chose to just chill in a HUGE raft and listened to 90's alternative.  We did switch it up to some 90's hip hop, but the alternative pandora channel was the BOMB!!!  We also decided that you can't get better than 90's alternative music, today's alternative music is so WEAK! :)  Spoken like true 30 somethings, right?! :)

We caught up on each other lives, read old year books and had some trouble remembering all the "remember when..." stuff that we wrote, and then couldn't even believe we did some of the stuff we did.  We truly thought we were so AWESOME and smart and invincible!!  But I guess that's what being young is all about. :)

I failed to take a bunch of pics b/c it was just so much fun to sit and relax and catch up with the ladies! :)  I hope we really do make it a yearly thing! :)

Those Crazy Schafer's | Holland Michigan Family Reunion

Over the summer we had a family reunion in Holland Michigan.   Every 3 years my Dad's side of the family get's together.  It's just my Dad and his brother and their families.  We've always grown up apart as they lived in Ames Iowa and we lived in the south, so it's fun together when we can.

My Dad and his brother are SO funny together, but My Uncle Bob and Aunt Betsy couldn't be there this year, so it was a little different, but just as fun! :)

I didn't bust my camera out much, mainly just my iphone.  These are some pictures I took when we visited a working Windmill there in Holland.  Yeah, there was a bunch of historic stuff I could tell ya, but you know I can't remember all that! :)

The Windmill!!

The workers there busted out a dance before the tour started!  Good thing it's pretty cool up there or else you would have been BURNING up...look at those wool socks!

The girls performed as well...hahaha!

We all went out one night to the downtown Holland when they had street performers, it was a lot of fun...

Grandpa bought us ice cream...

The last night we were there we were all sitting around talking (as we always do the last night) and I decided we should take some pics of all of us.  The lighting was AWFUL, I'm pretty sure half of us weren't wearing make up, but it had to be done!  Family History is a big deal for our family and we need to document US and not just the event.  So here we are! :)

The cousins

Cousins and their spouses

My Brother and Sister

With our significant others...except my loser sister who left her oldest son and hubby behind...LOL! ;)

Cousin Andrew to the rescue...were they expecting ME to Photoshop Chas in?

All the crazy cousins...

The fighting cousins!  Nicholas and I ALWAYS fought when we were younger.  It was bound to happen, he was a know-it-all and well, I'm not one to shy away from confrontation!  haha!

Mom and Dad

Our Family

The second cousins...

Oh the joys of jumping in a water puddle IN the rain!!!

All Summer long..

I've been pretty bad about updating my blog this summer.  It takes time, and time is what I haven't had much of!!  So, I'm making it easy on me and blogging all of summer in ONE post.  I'm just gonna go through what was on my iphone, especially since that is what I use most of the time to take pics! :)

Summer started out with Vacation Bible School.  The girls had a blast.  They had Christian T-shirt day and since I  didn't buy a VBS t-shirt, we made these fun CTR (Choose the Right) t-shirts! :)

We went to the library story time a few times.  It was always so packed so we didn't do it too much!

Nora cut of her hair for Pantene Beautiful length.  She LOVES her new short "do" and wants to do it every year. :)

We went to the Prime Community Secret Garden, here is Fayetteville.  It may be hot outside, but it was always pretty nice there under all the tree's...

We picked some berries...

We made ice cream with said berries...YUMMMMMMM!!!

The girls took swim lessons.  Next summer we're gonna go for swim team...YAY!

Nora got a hand-me-down camera and took pics for a week STRAIGHT.  Now she's over it!  haha! :)

We celebrated the 4th of July with some friends in Alpharetta and had a BLAST!

Shot off bottle rockets...

and a few fireworks and sparklers before it rained...

Wade and I actually found time to go to the temple together.  They same temple we were married in, BTW!! :)

We went to the park a few times.  This park had ducks that the girls LOVED watching!

We turned that unused crib into a chalkboard desk...thanks pinterest!!  This means we're DONE with having kids and to expect an "oops" to happen soon!  lol! :)

We went on a road trip to Michigan.  We stopped in Nashville and played in Cumberland Park...

Took a pic of beautiful skies in Indiana...It's a pretty state!

Went to an AWESOME farmers market in Holland, MI...

Played on the beach of Lake Michigan with cousins.  It's such a huge coast line that they call it the 3rd coast!

Tim Horton Donuts...So Good, might I even say better than Krispy Kreme???

We tried on some wooden shoes...

Took a road trip back home with my sister and her kiddos (2 of the 3 anyway).  Lucky, Wade, flew home!

Went back to the secret garden for some relaxation...

Wade got a new car....the all electric car, Nissan Leaf!  And yes, the dealership is called "Cronic".  Doesn't anyone else find that FUNNY?!

The girls and I went school shopping in said new car.  It's SO fun to drive!

My sister and I took a trip to out hometown of Troy, AL.
We saw our old house, which used to be yellow and the front door was in a completely different place...weird!

Stopped by our old High School...

I found our national championship cheer leading trophy...The top was broken and lost forever...glory days, what?  Glory days, who?  And we may or may not have had permission to be in the gymnasium, but seeing as they have tainted our trophy, I'd say we're EVEN, CHHS!!!! Rude!

We visited old friends and tried to swim naked in their pool.  The youngest child there may have successfully pee'd on the concrete, but you ain't heard that from me!!!

Played with out cousin in Troy.  They LOVED Morgan!

Back to the ATL for some Varsity!!

Then a quick trip to Lake Martin with some friends from High school.  Some of them I haven't seen in YEARS, like a decade!!  Such a fun little girls weekend! :)
